No. 230 - 1947 January COMPANY EXPANDS MINING AND SMELTING FACILITIES The Company has acquired the smelter at Laredo , Texas, and the mining properties of the Texas Mining & Smelting Co., producers of antimony and antimony oxides.. The purchase became effective with the close of business on December 31, 1946. The new Company unit will be operated as the Texas Mining & Smelting division, with Jean McCollum as general manager and Verne E. Kegler as manager. The latter will make his headquarters at Laredo. Mr. McCallum continues as manager of the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Works. VOLZ, BRADLEY VETERAN, OBSERVES 40TH SERVICE ANNIVERSARY Conrad Volz, oxide mill foreman of the Bradley works of Atlantic Branch, com pleted 40 years of service with the Company on December 28. The anniversary was celebrated nine days earlier at a luncheon given for Mr. Volz by a group headed by Harold Rowe, vice president and J. G. C. McNair, Atlantic Branch manager. BEHR COMPLETES QUARTER CENTURY Gustave E. Behr, chief metallurgist, completed 25 years of service with thp Company on December 16. A luncheon with associates of the metal department of the Research Laboratories and members of the Laboratory's 25-Year Club marked the occasion. WELCH ASSUMES DUTIES IN METAL DEPARTMENT AT NEW YORK William J. Welch has started work at headquarters in New York City as assistant to C. A. Geatty, manager of the Metal Department. Fred Eichom, with the Atlantic Branch metal department for 18 years, has been transferred to the Morris P. Kirk & Son plant in Los Angeles where he has taken over the sales job vacated by Mr. Welch.
