(1) Moat of my efforte have bean related to'PCBs,' working not only with Monsanto personnel but also with repre sentatives of Federal and State agencies, individual customers, our customers' customers, and electrical trade associations. Areas of specific interest Include toxicity of PCBa, presence in the environment (Lake - Michigan, silos), analytical procedures, contaminants (furana) and proposed effluent standards. Although Interest in PCBa remains high, I see no indications that regulatory measures leading to a ban on PCBs are being seriously considered. Zn the Orest Lakes area, despite l. all the emotions being generated the "bans" which are proposed appear to be potential legal support for Monsanto's restricted marketing policy. In Michigan an eruption of silo law suits has not occurred. At the Federal agency level, although Dr. Renata Kimbrough's work with Aroclor 1260 has been known since lata 1974, no regulatory agency has been fit to take precipitous action. ... In summary, our willingness to respond as a cooperative, responsible manufacturer continues to help keep a . profitable product line viable, .
