PROPOSED ENGINEERING STANDARD S4T - ASBESTOS
The Safety and FiTe Protection Subcommittee of the Engineering Stan dards Committee has developed a draft standard, "Asbestos Dust Ex posure, Measurement and Control". Since our initial efforts, OSHA
regulations have been promulgated which we feel should be reflected in this standard.
The following wording covering medical examinations has been proposed
for inclusion. We would appreciate your comments and any suggested changes:
6. MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
The employer will make medical examinations, relative to asbestos exposure, available at his cost.
6.1 Preplacement - Each employee shall have a physical examination within 30 days of his first exposure to air borne concentrations of asbestos fibers.
6.2 Annual - An annual examination shall be conducted on
each employee exposed to airborne concentrations of asbestos
dust.
/ ^i
6.3 Termination of Employment - Each employee shall have an
examination within 30 days before or after termination of em
ployment in an area of exposure to airborne asbestos dust.
6.4 Recent Examination - No additional exams are required if adequate records show that the employee has been examined in compliance with the above sections.
