MCGREGOR AB- 23 RECEIVED 1981 MARCH 31 APR 4 1981 Industrial Hygiene RE: TRANSITE AIR VENT PIPE: JOHNS-MANVILLE We have convinced Johns-Manvi1le's (J.M.) management to continue the manufacture of Transite Air Vent Pipe until Alcoa has found an acceptable substitute. Todate, the asbestos Transite pipe has been the only acceptable product for the pot exhaust duct application. J-M has requested that Alcoa's total requirements for Transite pipe be issued on a semi-annual basis by the Pittsburgh Procurement Department directly to J-M's Denver Colorado Headquarters, Attn: Mr. John Cran. Therefore, all plant requirements for Transite pipe will be forwarded to my attention by the 31 JAN and 31JULY of each year for shipments to be made at the end of the second and fourth quarters respectively. Emergency requirements in the off-periods will be handled on a best effort basis. Until we have found a substitute for the Transite pipe, we are hereby alerting all plant procurement offices that future requirements for this commodity will be purchased as outlined above.
