DEALER COMMUNICATION January 7, 2005 To: All Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers, Service Managers and Technicians Subject: Repair and Body Shop Safety and Pollution Prevention Training SAFETY AND POLLUTION PREVENTION (S/P2) WEB COURSE Technical Support Operations (TSO) has reviewed the Safety and Pollution Prevention (S/P2) web course from the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR). This course is industryrecognized and recommended for dealership use as part of an overall environmental awareness plan. There are two specific S/P2 programs: Mechanical S/P2 - For service department shops Autobody/collislonfrefinish S/P2 - For autobody shops. Note: This may be required in order for dealers to participate in some insurance companies' Direct Repair Programs (DRPs). BACKGROUND The Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established In 1994. At that time, 38 national organizations in the automotive trade, representing all segments of the service and repair industry, joined together to form CCAR, and today CCAR has more than 200 affiliate organizations. CCAR has been working with the automotive repair Industry and related organizations since its introduction of S/P2 in January 2002 to present S/P2 as an integral, but not allencompassing, component of a service operation's program to comply with federal regulations regarding safety and environmental concerns in the shop. With an estimated 2-5% of shops in compliance presently, Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers are encouraged to participate In the S/P2 training. S/P2 can play a valuable role in the Important task of safety and environmental stewardship in both the collision repair and service repair departments. The S/P2 content has been carefully crafted to adhere to these regulations and due to CCAR's ongoing relationships with both EPA and OSHA, they are able to constantly monitor the regulatory landscape for any changes In either federal or state laws that impact the auto repair community. An S/P2 Spanish version is also included. INDUSTRY USERS OF S/P2 Following Is a list of industry users to date: General Motors has adopted S/P2 for its ASEP and BSEP schools. DaimlerChrysler has approved S/P2 for its College Automotive Program Toyota has provided financial support to bring S/P2 to its T-TEN schools. 'Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) has incorporated S/P2 into its program. As part of this announcement, Ford and CCAR wilt make S/P2 training available to students in the Ford ASSET, FACT, MLR and YAATC Technical Career Entry Programs.
