I f not a t Easton, where would you suggest th a t- th is work Slight be done! Do you have any ideas to contribute? Can you reasonably estim ate the p o te n tia l co st of reform ulating Kilnolse to elininate asbeates while Maintaining satisfactory acoustical properties? Thanks fo r your contents. DONALCO Bob P la n ts and I visited the tunnel job in T oronto and a lso participated in the S em in ar that Donalco had fo r th eir d istrib u to rs this period. This job is by fa r the la rg e s t K ilncise job th at 1 have known in the la s t tw elve y e a n , and could possibly lake a s much a s 100, 000 bags of K ilnoise. The Ponaleo Sem inar was for the bene fit of th e ir asso c ia te s, who a re contractors throughout Canada. Donalco is the p rim e distributor fo r fire proofing m aterials and, in our case, Kilnoise. This could open a real good outlet fo r Kilnoise.' D uring this period, we com pleted a pan el of K ilnoise with approxim ately 5/8" nom inal thickness, well perforated and w ell bru sh ed . It is expected that this will be tested within the next ten days and, hope fully, we will get a . 50 NRC. If so, we sh all be hom e free on the tunnel job. O ur p a n e l th at we te ste d the f i r s t p a r t of M ay fa ile d in re a c h in g a . 50 NRC, and we fe e l that the principal reason fo r this is that it had a .41" nom inal thickness. NASSAU ,, t. > During this period, I attended the D irectors and Technical Committee M eetings of the iaW CC. Copies of the follow -up and contacts have been sent to you under separate cover. ASBESTOS In the la s t two y e a rs , .a sb e sto s f ib e rs have com e fo rw ard a s a re a l h ealth h azard and have been under sev ere attack by the E nvironm ental M ovement. As you know, .K ilnoise c a rrie s asb e sto s fib e rs and it would be my strong suggestion that we have a re s e a rc h project a s to what we could do to supplem ent asb esto s fibers in K iln o ise, p o ssibly with verm icolite o r p erlite, which would, hopefully, elim inate the health h azard associated w ith a sb e sto s, and try to develop a product that would reach m ax im um acoustical value without the need for perfo ratio n a. At the Sem inar a t Donalco, they had an engineer w ith the E nvironm ental D epartm ent and a physician well v e rse d with the problem s of a sb e sto sis. May I suggest that e look into thla problem aa early a* poaaible. oger, along with reviewing m odification of K iinoiae to comply with the health izarda of aabeatoaia, I would like a t thia tim e to auggeat that we strongly cond e r o th e r re s e a rc h p ro jec ts with re g a rd to A1RO L im e form ulated w ith P o rtla n d em ent fo r Type "S" M ortar so that we could, hopefully, sell cem ent com panies i the id ea of blending our lim e w ith th e ir cem en t.
