Asbestos Ambient Air Monitoring - Cleveland Engine Plants As requested by Manufacturing Staff, air samples were taken at the Cleveland Engine Plants on February 25, 198l to evaluate asbestos in air concentrations at locations reported to Manufacturing Staff as using asbestos. The areas evaluated included heat treat in Department **690 at Plant No. 1 and Tocco camshaft hardening in Department 4976 at Plant No. 2. The use of asbestos insulating materials was reported in both of these departments, but only a few small aBbestos gaskets were observed. , The permissible occupational exposure limit (PEL) for asbestos is 2.0 f/cc, and the action level for medical monitoring iB 0.1 f/cc. As can be seen from the attached data sheet, none of the results of the air samples taken exceeded or neared the PEL or action level.
