1.0 Dr. Larry Hecker, Vice-Chairman of EOIC, chaired today's meeting, as Hr. Ron Van Hynen was stranded in North Carolina due to bad weather.
2.0 Mr. Bob Clark gave a financial update. As of February 1, 1989, the uncommitted budget for the EOIC is $273,000.00
3.0 Ms. Sara Schotland gave ar legal activities update. The NRDC Section 112 CAA lawsuit has moved forward and we are still waiting for a final decision.

4.0 Dr. Romano briefed the group on EO regulations. EPA's EO Section 112 will move forward after the Agency settles on the Benzene NESHAPS. The EO NESHAPS appears to be addressed by EPA by early 1990.
5.0 Mr. Norm Gaines discussed the EO Health Assessment Document Addendum that Dr. Steven Bayerd of EPA is preparing. The addendum covers the following four areas:
o Mutagenicity o Carcinogenicity o Developmental -
short-term chronic
6.0 The EOIC approved $5,000 for the Scientific Committee to contract with a scientist (Dr. Paustenbach, or others) to address the short-term, high dose data on ethylene oxide.
7.0 The group discussed the EO Fugitive Emissions Final Draft Report due on March 10, 1989. The final report will be available by April 10, 1989, at that time the report will be sent to EPA. A Joint meeting will occur with EPA in late April or early May to discuss the fugitive emissions final reports done by the EOIC, and the Butadiene and Phosgene Panels.
8.0 Mr. Norm Gaines discussed the activities of the Toxicology Task Group. Mr. Gaines reviewed the March 1, 1989 meeting of the EOIC Toxicology Task Group. The group is preparing a pharmacokinetics protocol outline which will be distributed to all members. The Board of Directors requested that the Toxicology Task Group meet informally with CUT to finalize our pharmacokinetics protocol outline. Mr. Gaines and Dr. Romano will coordinate the CUT contact via a meeting or conference call.
The Board of Directors also established an ad-hoc group chaired by Mr. Herb Weiss to evaluate the benefits of a physiological pharmacokinetics modeling study. Mr. Weiss will establish the members of the ad-hoc group in discussions with Mr. Van Mynen. The full ad-hoc group will then meet in April, 1989, to develop a recommendation to the Executive Committee, which will meet on April 28 (9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.).
9.0 Mr. Jim Jorkasky gave a HIMA update. HIMA is developing an epidemiology report on EO sterilization; NI0SH is also preparing a similar report.

The group approved up to $10,000 for Dr. Robert Morgan or Dr. Oh Wong to pull together and prepare a white paper on all EO epidemiology studies which we could use with the regulatory agencies.
