Watt ASBESTOS IN ROOFING CErOiXT October 25, 1373 D( FOR RESALE} Sometime ago, Mr. tiernan and Mr. Helton raised a question on our continuing sale of roofing cement (purchased from others} which contained asbestos. This remained the only apparent obstacle to our repeated claim that we she and sell no products containing asbestos. According to Mr. 3usch, Western Division no longer sells such a product. (See letter k/11.} According to Mr. Stover CGC sells it and needs it. (See letter 9/15,} It doesn't seem to me that we can continue to take a firm position on what we don't do when we are still doing it. However, Canada Is another country - and it is a purchased product*-not one made by us - and they are trying to rebuild a roofing business. Conversely, if we were successful in eliminating the pro duct at South Gate with little effect on volume and profit, we should with some planning be able to do it in Canada.
