Several response goals were met yesterday, including: Equipment located at the well site was safely removed. Air monitoring continued in and around the well pad and evacuation zone. Results remain below levels of concern for public health. Today's goals include: Further equipment removal from the site to allow for the next stage of the response. Prepare the site for tomorrow's efforts to halt the release. A community meeting for Galeton residents is scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, April 10, at the Galeton Fire Station #2 located at 33535 Hwy. 392. Representatives from Galeton Fire Department, Weld County Office of Emergency Management, Chevron and others will be in attendance to share updates directly with residents. Eric and Travis - On April 6, 2024, at approximately 6 pm MST, a well control incident occurred at one of Chevron's well locations near Galeton, CO. Chevron notified the Weld County Office of Emergency Management and all appropriate regulatory agencies. Galeton Fire Department is on location and, as a precaution, evacuated a half-mile perimeter around the incident site. An injury to one contractor's employee was reported, and that individual was taken to a local medical facility. All other personnel are accounted for and in a secure location. We activated our emergency response procedures and implemented air monitoring at and around the incident site. At this time, we anticipate shutdown of the well tonight or tomorrow. A Unified Command was established to manage a coordinated response effort that includes the Weld County Office of Emergency Management, Galeton Fire District, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission, and Environmental Protection Agency. Currently, we are focused on the safety of our local community and response personnel, controlling the source, containing, and recovering released material, and protecting environmentally sensitive areas. Well control experts have been mobilized and are on location to assess the situation and take any necessary actions. Containment boom and other protection devices have been deployed to help contain wellbore fluids away from ditches and waterways. Please reach out with questions.
