The finding of one definite and one equivocal case of asbestos is in Baton Rouge indicates the need for further study. As an approach to the problem we suggest 1) Re-X-ray the equivocal case 2) Current chest X-ray on all asbestos-handling employees 3) Industrial hygiene survey of the asbestos-handling operation 4) Annual follow-up X-ray on all exposed personnel 5) Annual ventilatory function studies on all exposed personnel 6) Pre-placement selection for new insulator personnel to exclude employees with significant pre-existing pulmonary disease 7) Restriction of definite cases of asbestosis .from further exposure to asbestos We have suggested to Dr. Burdick that he have his chest X-rays on asbestos-exposed employees reviewed as an addendum to an industrial hygiene survey to take place in Houston in mid-July.
