T102 FACILITY; Plans have been announced for a new titanium dioxide plant on a site in coastal Mississippi, Expenditure of $8 million has been authorised for design and equipment. The plant, expected to go on stream in 1977, will have between 500 and 600 employees. The project is in response to increasing demand for TiO_, for use in paints, plastics, paper, printing inks and floor coverings, and it is being planned with further ex pansion in mind, Three other Du Pont plants for titanium dioxide are in operation in the O.S, Two already use, and the third is being converted to, the chloride process, which was pioneered by Du Pont and will be used in the new plant. The chloride process has significant quality and environmental ad vantages over other production processes. A TiC>2 plant in Europe is still under study, and a decision where it will be sited is expected before the end of the year. ' (104) IRANIAN COMPANY FORMED: Polyacryl Iran Corporation, a new company to manufacture polyester and acrylic textile fibres was formed in Teheran on August 11, This follows the earlier announcement (ID 2/74 - 67) of the $ 250 million joint venture at a site near Isfahan, Iran's second largest city, Polyacryl Iran Corporation is owned 40 per cent by E,I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, and 60 per cent by Iranian interests.' Amongst the ten directors on the board of the new conpany, the Du Pont representatives are M.H, Campbell, T.A, Casadevall, E.M. Hicks and J.R. Wheaton. Mr. Wheaton is also deputy managing director and director of operations for the new company, and Mr. J.P. van Horck is financial director. (105) MEXICAN MERGER: Policron de Mexico S.A. and Nylon de Mexico S.A., sub sidiaries of the Du Pont Company and Promofil S.A. of Monterrey, Mexico, have been merged. Policron was a producer of polyester staple fibres, while the other company manufactured nylon staple, and nylon and polyester filament yarns. The hew company, which will retain the name Nylon de Mexico S.A., is owned approximately 60 per cent by Promofil and 40 per cent by Du Pont. Du Pont will supply technical know-how and patent rights on products and processes in support of Nylon de Mexico's multi-fibre operation. (106) MORE "TEFLON,": A capacity increase from the present 2,000 to 3,000 tons/ | year has been announced for the ''Teflon" PTFE fluorocarbon resin plant at j Dordrecht, Netherlands. Subject to approval by the Dutch authorities, the expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 1975, The plant, which I went on stream in 1967, is designed to permit further increases in capacity, should this prove necessary. / (107)
