Picotte Counsel State Board of Health State of Santana iiclena, Montana ' . roar Mr. Plcotte: It has been reported to me that after ay departure froa Helena early last Saturday aorniug, you informally requested additional infonsatioi concerning my appearance at the Montana State Board of Health hearing on Ambient Ur Quality Standards held Friday night, Hay 26. in reply to your questions at the hearing, X stated for the record that X represented myself and tho Kettering Laboratory and that X was appearing in the public interest to state the results of a lifetime of experimental and clinical work carried out by myself and my associates in the Kettering laboratory in the College of Ifedicine of the University of Cincinnati, concerning lead in the environment of man. The information bearing on this experimental work is included in the documents left with the reporter at the hearing. In response to your subsequent request for additional Information, I can only state that X was not employed or compensated by anyone for ray appearance before your Board, and thus was not speaking for nor representing anyone in tho sense tiiat you use those terms. X was advised of the subject ratter of your hearing by officials of Ethyl Corporation, for which I served as aedicai Birector for any years and for which X still act as a consultant. But the compelling reason for my presence at your hearing was my professional concern that the facts concerning lead in relation to the public health night not otherwise come to the attention of the Board of Health. An important asjiect of this matter is the fact that certain crucial experiments are in progress at tho present time that give promise of providing an early mid definitive answer to the question of the maximum concentration of lead in the air time can be breathed by men without any threat to their health or well-being. It was and is rny opinion that this prospect should be known by every agency in the country that is responsible for setting standards for tho quality of the air.
