Cicero Avenue Chicago, Illinois 60453 Dear Bob: I know too well your sensitivity to the public's perception of truck trans portation and the need to minimize adverse publicity. The attached letter from the city of Cambridge is self-explanatory. Hopefully, the situation has been resolved by now. If not, please give it your immediate attention. Evidently, the product was manufactured by Monsanto, since the city of Cambridge has copied us on their latest letter to your Mr. James Bucko. Please let me know of your handling. Thanks. For what ever reason, the City feels that they are getting a classical run-a-round from ''industry". I don't know what leverage we have with Rogers or what options are available to us to improve relationships with the City of Cambridge, but please give this matter some thought. Angry and frustrated city officials drive state legislation frequently. GFF/alb _ attachment/ . . Garth Fort CC c5H^ -(jlj /L&--1USVV vl . jts LaasQ. Cicero Avenue Oak Lawn, 111. 60453 Attention: Mr. James Bucko Dear Sir, On July 2, 1987, I mailed a letter to you pertaining to the breakdown of costs incurred by the City of Cambridge, Ohio and other related agencies as a result of the chemical spill on June 2, 1987. As of this date, the City has not received payment nor any correspondence whatsoever. The reimbursement has become a matter of concern with the City Administration and City Council. On August 28, 1987, I attempted to call you, but was informed that you were not available. On the same date, I had a conversation with Mr. Jack Riemen of Marraac Insurance Agency. Mr. Riemen stated the matter had been turned over to Travelers Insurance Company. I, then, proceded to call Mr. Jeff Fitos of Travelers in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Fitos stated all the paperwork had been turned over to Travelers _ Enviromental Claims Division in Texas. He stated that the computers were down for the rest of the day and that he could not give me any information. He did offer to contact Texas to find out the status of the paperwork. I was then informed that there is a."problem with the coverage aspect with Rogers Cartage." It is, also, my understanding that claims were submitted to Travelers Insurance by Guernsey Memorial Hospital for treatment received by Police and Fire Personnel. These claims were rejected. It is the opinion of the City, that Rogers Cartage is responsible for payment of these claims. I am asking for your cooperation to investigate these two problems, and have them resolved as quickly as possible. I am requesting a response, in writing, within two weeks in order that I can inform the City Solicitor and Council as to the status of this situation. It has been four months since this incident has occurred and the City has been more than patient. your cooperation Service/Safety Director City of Cambridge, Ohio cc: Mr. C.
