ABSORBING interest in prc jects which require menu concentration in addition to ca ful and accurate craftsmanshi can help materially in divertin attention of young people froi interests and activities which ma lead to their getting into mischie This is an appropriate time, v believe, to make Christmas gif of a sort that tends to give stimi lus and encouragement to ar young person who gives evident of being interested in a skilh craft or a scientific or engineerii pursuit.
The toy market reflects the i creasing interest in mechanic hobbies; the model airplane hobl in particular appears to have lc none of its great popularity wi the youngsters. Model railro construction and operation r popular with both young and c enthusiasts, and even the mar facturers of the low-priced or "t plate" electric railroads now of scale models of actual railrc equipment. Miniature racing c. and speedboats have their < votees.
Perhaps because of active p ticipation by women in the m; ing of war materials, an increas number of girls appear to be she ing interest in mechanical, e! trical, and chemical work, and be developing scientific aptitu and skills. Girls now enter cc petitions on equal terms with tl brothers, for example, in me airplane meets. Nevertheless, great majority of little girls doubt prefer dolls as toys.
