This information from the National i Paint and Coatings Association- was forwarded through R. B. Sinrpsom In j reviewing the proposed ordinance, which is expected to become effective within the next few days, there appears to be several points which will require consideration above those restrictions which are part of the ' ' national regulations. The Detroit ordinance would require specific labeling or the use of label stickers on materials which are in excess of 0.5 percent lead. This is - more restrictive"than.tne national program in that the national level deals with the interstate shipment of goods while the Detroit ordinance pertains to the sale of goods. In addition, the Detroit ordinance requires - a lead warning label for industrial products in containers up to and including 55 gallon drums. The deadline for this labeling will be 30 days after the effective date of the Detroit Ordinance.
