When fires are --then boiler stacks face their greatest danger Red-lead protects cool stacks against corrosion . . . and maintains un broken film when stacks are hot T night--over the week-end--when Aever fires are banked, boiler stacks of steel stand at the mercy of corrosion, unless properly protected. And protection is exceedingly difficult. When the boilers are in operation, the heat ofthe stack may injure tie paint film. The problem is to hold the paint film intact. Many paints fail at extreme boilerstack temperatures, leaving the steel in completely protected when the stack be comes cool. Such is not the case with pure red-lead. Up to the maximum stack temperatures for normally operated boilers, red-lead maintains an unbroken protective coating. When you paint boiler-stack steel with pure red-lead you are giving it the best possible protection. Pure red-lead paint resists the corrosive attack of air and moisture. It stands up under the heat of boiler stacks. It produces an elastic film which does not crack when the steel contracts and expands under alternate cooling and heating. It is not injured by boiler gases. The choice ofthe profession Engineers everywhere depend on pure red-lead for metal protection. Investi gations indicate that they use it exten sively. 179 of the 206 engineers answering a recent questionnaire were red-lead users. Many of these engineers use Dutch Boy red-lead. Dutch Boy is pure, highly oxi dized, uniform. It is obtainable in either paste or liquid form. The liquid comes in the natural orange-red for next-to-metal coats and in browns, greens and black for finishing coats. The paste comes in the natural orange-red and can be shaded to dark colors.
