Using the Brake Shoe Horn (Tool No. 64947016), lever the shoe web of each brake shoe trailing edge into its abutment slot at the rear end of the wheel cylinder. Remove the retaining wire from the cylinder pistons. 12. Taking cm not to damage the brake linings, refit the wheel and brake drum assembly as detailed in Operation 14 371. 13. Remove the two rubber plugs at the rear of the brake dust cover which cover the brake shoe steady posts, slacken the steady post locknuts and unscrew both steady posts two full turns using Adjuster Tool No. 64927025. Turn the brake adjusters in a clockwise direction until the shoes are in firm contact with the drum. 15. Using the Adjuster Tool No. 64927025, screw in one steady post until it just contacts the brake shoe web, then tighten the locknut. Refit the steady post rubber plug. 16. Repeat the operation on the other shoe steady post. 17. Adjust the brakes as detailed in Operation 12 132. 18. Chock the front wheels. 2. Slacken the wheel nuts. 3. Position a jack under the centre of the rear axle and raise the vehicle sufficiently to fit stands under each end of the axle. 4. Release the park brake. 5. Remove the wheel nuts and, using a wheel trolley, remove the wheel. 6. Remove the hub and brake drum assembly as detailed in Operation 15 374. 7. Slacken the brake shoe adjusters. 8. Using the special Tool No. 64927026 or a suitable hook tool, unhook and remove the brake shoe retracting springs. 9. Wire around the expander tappets to retain the rollers and wedge in position. 10. Using the Brake Shoe Horn (Tool No. 64947016), prise the shoes from their abutment slots in the wheel cylinders and remove the shoes complete with shoe carriers from the brake carrier plate. 11. Wire the wheel cylinder pistons to keep them retracted. 12. Disconnect and remove the carrier return springs. 13. Remove the brake shoe carriers from the brake shoes. To Install NOTE: Ensure that the brake shoe lining material of the replacement shoes is of the correct specification. Check the letter code on the side of the brake shoe lining (see SPECIFICATIONS). 14. Position the upper brake shoe against the carrier plate and attach the inner retracting springs to the shoes. 15. Raise the brake shoe and fit the shoe carrier and carrier strut. 16. Continue to raise until the brake shoe is located in the upper slots on the ends of the wheel cylinders, and the shoe carrier is located, one end in the slot of the shoe adjuster, and the other end in the slot of the expander unit. 17. Position the lower brake shoe and shoe carrier, locating the carrier in the slots at the lower ends of the shoe adjuster and expander units. 18. Fit the shoe carrier return springs. 19. Ensure that the lower brake shoes are located in the slots of the wheel cylinders, and using the special Tool No. 64927026 or a suitable hook tool, fit the inner retracting springs to the lower shoes. 20. Position and fit the outer retracting springs to the shoes. 21. Remove the retaining wire from around the expander tappets and wheel cylinders. 22. Adjust the clearance between the brake shoe carrier strut and the brake shoe as follows:- (a) Ensure that the brake shoes are central. 8006 1272 i HFM - 005858
