Based on the new-and more stringent standard, the following must be complied .withs... a. All employees who routinely handle asbestos or who work on asbestos containing equipment, must be informed of this new standard. This includes both operations and maintenance employees. b. All employees who have not received training on the proper handling of asbestos, including the health affects from asbestos exposure must receive such training within 60 days. This can be accomplished by showing the unit asbestos video film during a unit training meeting, reviewing safe operating procedures for transporting and dumping of asbestos and discussing procedures, for clean ing up accidental spills and opening equipment* containing asbestos. c. Although employee monitoring indicates that we meet the new asbestos standard of 0.5 fibers cc the data fluctu ates from sample to sample in the operations area. The next unit safety meeting should attempt to determine from employees what causes these fluctuations so that the variability might be reduced. It is requested that this letter or the attachment be posted on your unit bulletin boards for not less than 7 working days. I will be glad to assist you in any unit training programs.
