Congratulations. The tour kicks off 20 days from today. You might be interested to know that the tour has been booked solid for two weeks-the earliest it has ever "sold out." The enthusiasm for the great news, but shows a slight masochistic streak in some of you. Attached is a copy of the tour agenda. You can expect some changes between now and tour time, but for the most part the agenda is pretty fixed. The tour will kick off with a reception at 7 pm at the Pasco Red Lion. It will be good if you are there for reception which will have enough food at it that you will not need dinner. The key to the reception is we will have registration and orientation there. If you do not make it to the reception beyond the bus prior to its 7 am departure on Tuesday. Many of you have not been on this tour before so we need to prep you for what is about to happen. This is a little different from other tours. We are up and at it pretty early each day. The bus leaves at 7 am each morning. The Tuesday and Wednesday evenings we will be back to the hotel by 9 pm. On Thursday, we will be back to the hotel by 3:30-if you need to depart earlier, such as 2:00, 2:30 or 3:00 pm, let us know and we can accommodated a small number of earlier departures. By the way, telling me you are coming on the tour for three days and then dropping out earlier means you will have to deal with my scorn. Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 1 ED 002061 00043424-00001 The weather is pretty predictable-No rain, lots of sun and it will be hot. When the bus is on gravel road it will have to turn off the air conditioning, so there are a couple of times that the bus will be pretty warm. There will be enforced drinking--of water. Everybody is issued a tour water bottle and we make sure that everyone is drinking-water. There is a dress code for the tour. No sandals, no open toed shoes. That aside, you can pretty much wear what you want. Bear in mind we will be in blueberry fields, hop yards, orchards, vineyard, a mint still, carrot field, tracking through an underground winery, asparagus bed, walking on dirt roads, gravel roads, paved roads, alkali bee beds, wheat fields, pulse test plots, canal banks, etc. You get the picture. My recommendation is wear clothing that is appropriate for hot weather, can withstand getting dusty, wet and sweaty. Put some time in thinking about appropriate foot wear. I promise you that you will be walking through a lot of dirt, dust and mud. If you want to wear shorts and short sleeved shirts, you are welcomed to. We will be providing a wide array of beverages for the tour so you will be offer beverages a minimum of every 60 minutes (we are serious about hydration.) You will not need breakfast before you leave in the morning. There will be a light breakfast offered at the first stop each day. Here is a hint for you: no one has ever lost weight on this tour. Some folks have provided dietary restrictions request-we are pretty sure that we have these addressed. If you want to break up a dietary restriction or medical condition let me, Jennifer Garcia or Jim Zahand. Jennifer is my administrative assistant and Jim is my right hand on the tour. There are 35 speakers lined up for the tour for the 20 or so stops on the tour. And then there is the schedule. We have to stay on schedule. So remember this thought... if you get on the bus at 7 am in the morning, then it means that you are late.
