P. A. Filteau be engaged ( effective July 16th, 1963) .'at a salary of i20000 p.a.. The secretary tabled two submissions covering life insurance, major medical and pension plans for the secretary general. Moved, seconded and adopted that the subnission by Marsh L McLennan of 3,727.GO be accepted. Ur. Filteau will contribute 1240.00 p.a. to life insurance and major medical and 42 of salary (&80c*;00) to pension plan. Moved, seconded and adopted that Mr. Filteau will report to a committee composed of the President and two Vice-Presidents for detailed outline of his duties. Mr. Filteau presented a summary of office space which he had examined in Quebec City. After review it was noved, seconded c "r -2- and adopted that he be authorized to rent space in the 'Grande Alice Edifice', SSO Grande All&e East, koo= 3UQ, at a rate of 13.OG per square foot or approximately MUG.CO per coot.;, including housecleaning, maintenance, etc,, plus CIO.00 per month parking space, for a period of five (5) years with permission to sub-let* Ur* Filtoau will obtain a proposed contract and subnit it Proposed, seconded and to the President. / . / adopted that Ur. Smith expressing too appreciation for his work on the Uniform Classification and Grading Committee over many years. Ur. Sabourin will review the present procedure boing followed and prepare a memorandum covering a desired procedure for review of such cases. Duo to lack of berthing, surcharges are being increased continually. Mention was made of a possible railroad strike in U.S.A, Industrial Relations Copi&s of the ainutos of the- last committee meeting have been distributed to members. Copies of Bill *54 have ' also been distributed. Legislation and Taxation It is reported that the new Quebec Mining Act will not be presented until the next session of the Legislative Assembly and will contain many revisions from that proposed by the original Commission. There will be substantial increases in the rotes of duties cn nines. Reference is made to proposed new Labor Code, Federal and*"?rovlncial plans for pensions on which ouaerous bulletins have been issued by Trade Associations. It is agreed that we will support the Canadian Metal Mining Association in its brief to the Royal Commission on Taxation but will not submit a separate brief. Certain revisions have been made to the application of sales tax as proposed in the original Federal Budget of June 13th. It is suggested that companies review materials previously purchased under 'materials for production* to determine if any can still be granted exemption. Certain items previously purchased as 'production machinery* might bo more properly considered 'materials consumed in product tor.', Proposed changes in income tax budget resolutions include a reduction from 6 to 4 months for final settlement after the end of a fiscal year. -5 v.. A letter from the Canadian Importers Association referring to the above which deals with 'Wire and Wire Products* was tabled. The letter suggested that the Q.A.U.A. might want to join with tho C.l.A. in preparation of a brief protest ing possible tariff increases..
