Air sampling to determine potential employe exposure to asbestos was conducted at the Casper Plant December 1, 1981, by 'D. J. Slack, Senior Industrial Hygienist for Texaco USA. Additional area samples were obtained in close proximity to the stripping operation. All samples indicate asbestos levels well below the current OSHA standard.
Samples were collected on cellulose ester fiber filters utilizing calibrated DuPont P-2500 personal sampling pumps. Subsequent analysis was performed by NATLSCO Environmental Sciences Laboratory, an accredited industrial hygiene facility. A bulk sample of the material removed in the stripping procedure was also analyzed. This analysis indicated that the insulation contained 5 to 10% amosite asbestos.
The current OSHA asbestos standard specifies an eight-hour time weighted average (TWA) of two (2) fibers per cubic centimeter (f/cc) and a ceiling limit of ten (10) f/cc.
Results are provided in the attached tables. All of these samples indicate asbestos levels well within the OSHA standard, 'the employe did wear approved respiratory protection"and coveralls during the stripping operation. These practices control employe exposure during the stripping operation and reduce the potential for contamination.
