Schumacher will contact the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center about its proposed conference on products liability. ******** 1. B. Karrh convened the meeting at 9:30 a.m. 2. The committee approved the May 17, 1985, meeting minutes without change. 3. AIHC Concept of Precautionary Control Measures F. Hoerger briefed the committee on the American Industrial Health Council's concept of precautionary control of chronic health risks. The discussion pointed out that this concept has been applied within CMA already through several special programs. H. Eschenbach will examine the AIHC concept further and assess how it might be applied to specific committee programs and be managed by the committee. 4. Teamsters' Request B. Karrh described a Teamsters Union request to DuPont for support of a health information and training program for its members. The committee agreed with B. Karrh's recommendation that the Teamsters contact J. Mayhew of CMA to see if the training program of the National Chemical Referral and Information Center would be suitable for the Teamsters' needs. B. Karrh will contact J. Mayhew to notify him of the Teamsters' request and possible contact. 5. Committee Planning Meeting Follow Up A. The committee reaffirmed Its recommendation made at the close of the planning meeting to assign responsibility for managing each of its six major goals to a person on the committee. Members agreed that task groups, working with their coordinators, sponsors and staff, need to prepare work plans for the committee to review that show how their objectives and programs will implement the committee's goals. As a first step, goal managers will confer with chairmen of task groups impacted by their goal to refine the goal and set out initially how the goal could best be achieved. C. The committee recommended that a CMA staff person be assigned to work with each goal manager to facilitate communication among other staff involved in implementing the goal. R. Schumacher will make the assignments and ask the staff designated to work with the goal manager to help plan the refinement and implementation of the committee's goals. D. Task group chairmen will be invited to attend the next committee meeting in July 17 to discuss the goals and plans to Implement them. 6. Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center Proposal The committee discussed the Drug Center's proposal to have CMA cosponsor a 1986 conference on product liability. Contact with the Center so far has provided inadequate information about the conference's objectives, audience and support, and how CMA could contribute to its success. R. Schumacher will contact the Center for additional information. 7. Guidelines for Assessment of New Chemicals The committee approved $6,000 in FY 85/86 research and consulting funds to complete development of a final proposal on a handbook to assess new chemicals. The Notification and Reporting Task Group began this work in FY 84/85 and plans to complete the detailed proposal soon. 8. CMA Roundtable on Labeling and MSDS The committee reviewed a proposal from CMA's General Counsels Group to have a CMA meeting among member companies' technical and legal represen tatives on implementing the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. The committee believed a meeting to explain what the standard requires would not be useful. If the General Counsels Grdup wants general information , on Labels and Material Safety Data Sheets, the committee will provide technical support.
