I am presently researching the to:lc of polychlorinated biphenyls for a class concerning the problems of conservation and pollution. In regard to this two General Electric plants have recently been cited for dumping PCBs Into the Hudson River. The source of these chemicals is your corporation. I would appreciate any information or literature you may be able to provide me with that will explain the indus trial uses of PCBs. I am partic ilarly interested in your company's assessment of the impact of PCBs on the environ ment. In a well known Hew York newspaper, Monsanto has said that they are considering the discontinuation of the sale and production of PCBs. If possible could you please Inform me as to why the company has come to discontinue such a marketable item and what, if anything, may be substituted to meet industries' demand for that which will produce the same effects without detrimentally affecting the environment.
