This road test is designed to give a quick overall evaluation of brakes or brake lining combinations for fade, recovery, wear, effectiveness and general performance. The method involves a three day trip of approx imately 1,000 miles through eastern Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia. On this particular trip were four 'X* cars, two lights and two heavies, one each equipped with Abex linings as described above and Inland rear drum non-asbestos material 7-827R. All vehicle fronts were equipped with DelcoMoraine 8032 disc.brake material. The heavy vehicles were loaded to 3,800 pounds, the light vehicles were loaded to 3,590. Rear drum size was 225 x 45, rotor dimensions 260 x 22 on the heavy duty units and 247 x 22 on the light units. Also included were 1982 'S' truck long wheel base and one short wheel base, the long wheel base equipped with Delco-Moraine 8032 front disc brake linings and Inland 827R primary/secondary rear drum lining, and the short wheel base with the same front lining, but Inland's 4035 and 4050 organic rear drum material. There were two JB7 trucks involved with Delco 8015A on both of them in the fronts and Inland 827R rear drum lining on one of them and 4035 and 4050 on the other. Weight total of the 'S' trucks were 4,200 pounds and on the JB7 7,900 pounds. In addition to the above was an Opel point and/or lead car. Nine vehicles were involved with 17 men. As coordinator of the trip was Dan Mahannah, Staff Engineer-Design and Test for Inland Division. Bob Jones, Assistant Staff Engineer of Inland, Max Hayward, Design Engineer of Inland, and Gary Toman, Supervisor Test Section of Inland all accompanied the group. Ken Thibo, Staff Engineer of Buick Motor Division, Bill Gillespie. Senior Design Engineer and Brian Heil, Project Engineer of Buick were along.
