(Hank) Clausen was promoted to Cleveland on October 15, 1966 as Supervisor Branch Relocations, having earned recognition in his work as Super visor Branch Installation and Remodel ing in Western Region the past few years. Hank was originally employed as Cashier Trainee on October 3,1949 and worked in our Janesville, Wisconsin Branch until December 1 when he was transferred to Rockford, Illinois to take over as Cashier-Credit Manager. Sep tember 15, 1950 he was transferred to 2 0007-SWP-000107535 Sales and May 1, 1953 took over the Dealer territory in Rockford. April 1, 1955 he was appointed Manager of our Beloit, Wisconsin Branch and on Jan uary 16, 1958 he took over the reins of management at the Rockford Branch. On October 16, i960 he was transferred to the Regional office as Assistant to Branch Operating Supervisor and then later took over as Supervisor Branch Installation and Remodeling. His rec ord of advancement speaks for itself. Hank had gained for himself many friends, working throughout the Region as he is gifted with a very pleasing, even-tempered personality. He has been missed in the Chicago office since his transfer, although we are always happy Don Barrett mating his presentation. On October 14 a group from the Chi cago office gathered at the M&M CJub in the Merchandise Mart to honor Hank, and present him with gifts from his friends throughout the Region. Wal ly Klomhaus acted as Toastmaster and brought out some of the highlights of Hank's career. It seems that Hank's favorite pastime is golf -- so his gifts were such that he could really enjoy. J. J. O'Neal, with his usual flare for verbosity, added several real and perhaps fancied experiences of Hank's on the golf course, as he pre sented golf balls. Anita Lytle, secre tary to Harry Wilson, presented an um brella and Don Barrett climaxed the presentations with a beautiful golf bag. Mr. D. W. Drummond, who always seems to have just the right word for the occasion, expressed the feelings of all in attendance, as he gave Hank recognition for his past record, and wished him fur ther success in his new assignment. Dixon hat meant to the Automo tive Department, and to the Company name and image. Wc haven't that much room. But, we ran tell you that on the night of Thursday, September 29, 1966 at the time of our annual MIDWEST AUTOMOTIVE ZONE SALESMEET1NG, the dinner and evening were de voted to honoring Jim, on the occasion of his retirement from S-W. We could go to some length to record outstanding events in his life, of signi ficance and moment, and show them as characteristic and explanatory of Jim Dixon. However, we do want to say that each speaker had their own way of showing how much Jim's outstanding sales achievements have meant to all of us. Mr. D. P. Summers, Sales Manager of the Midwest Automotive Zone was Chairman of the evening and called upon Mr. W. A. McIntyre, head of our Lacquer Laboratory to be the first speak er. Mr. McIntyre knows well how many times Jim haunted their area of the factory for information he needed for some of his accounts, and he was most complimentary of Jim's persistence and energy in seeing to it that the work was completed. Glen Beiohlavy, Chicago Automotive Branch Manager, presented Jim with the Album of letters and cards from many friends in the Company. Glen brought out the fact that if all S-W Reps were as successful as Jim, we could keep our largest competitor as a pet. Mabel Esmay presented Mrs. Dixon with a gift from the group, in apprecia tion of the great help she has always been to Jim. for she worked closely with him in making out reports, keeping re cords, and in many other ways. In Mr. Summer's remarks he brought out the fortitude and determination Jim showed in all of his work, and cited the example of his recently having sold Sears, Roebuck -- in spite of the fact that they have their own paint com pany. With that kind of competition, many a salesman would have walked away -- but not our Jim. He persisted, and today die Automotive Department is selling Sears our AGRYI.YD for their fleet of trucks. Mr. R. W. Henderson, who was here from Cleveland for this event, spoke of the way we could always depend on Jim -- and quoted figures compiled in Cleve land indie a ling that it could be safely estimated that in Jim's career with the Company he has sold somewhere be tween four million and four and a half million dollars worth of S-W materials. Theater and dinner tickets were given to Jim and his wife, as well as a gift certificate for Jim, so he could spend it lor something he Would particularly en joy. as a remembrance from his Zone Associates and friends. (Dick) Ladew was transferred to Chicago to take over the position of Regional Stockkeeper at the time Frank Bradley was transferred to Atlanta, about September 1. Over the past sixteen years Dick La dew has built a reputation of success in a number of assignments, having held the position of Assistant Manager, Branch Manager, Dealer Representa tive, Warehouse and Regional Stock- keeper. His locations have included Bangor, Maine, Fiuhburg, Medford, Springfield and Waltham, Mass. Prior to his transfer to Chicago, for the past five years he held the position of Warehouse and Regional Stock- keeper in Medford, Mass. With his past broad experience. Ralph Schneider succeeded Hank Clausen as Supervisor Branch Installa tion & Remodeling. Ralph began his service in Western Region in 1948 as Sales Clerk. He en tered Military Service in 1951 and re turned in 1954. He was Credit Manager & Branch Manager of our Oak Lawn, Illinois Branch and in 1958 was trans ferred to the position of Assistant to Regional Director, and from there to Personnel Manager. Ralph will continue his work with Personnel Recruitment but on a more limited basis, since he will be working more closely with Division Sales Man agers and Division Managers of C&A in this work. Ralph's pleasing personality is a real asset in his work and we are happy to offer our congratulations on this new advancement *****WMWtHHWWWH G. B. Blackwell To Chicago Office B. C Blackwell. G. B. (Barney) Blackwell has been appointed Regional Architectural Con sultant with headquarters in Chicago. He will work directly with major archi tects primarily in Chicago in the interest of Sherwin-Williams Paints being speci fied on large new construction plans throughout Western Region and the country. Barney's efforts will further support the Company's increased activity in the Architectural field, which was an nounced and launched In September 19154. Barney is a veteran Sherwin-Williams man with extensive experience in the field. He was employed March I, 1935 in Canton, Ohio as Cashier and in 1936 took over as Credit Manager of our Mil waukee, Wisconsin store. June 1, 1940 he became Branch Manager, Danville, Illinois; from 1944 to 1946 he served Unrlc Sam and returned to Danville. In May 1952 he took over the management of the Milwaukee Branch and in 1958 became PBM Representative. In August 1960 he was transferred to Manager of our Waukegan, Illinois Branch. Barney will be an important addition to the Regional Sales Staff, and his past experience will prove of extreme value in his new work. Welcome to the Regional Office, Bar ney. Doyle, the completion of twenty- five years of most faithful and produt- tivc service with The Sherwin-Williams Company. John P. (Johnny) Doyle began his career with S-W in 1942, starting out as sales clerk in the Trade Sales Division, trained under the direction of Miss Gisella Schrey. In 1944 Uncle Sam called and Johnnyspent two years in the Army Tankard Division. On November 1, !94fi John Doyle took over the West 79th Street Branch as Manager, and made this store the highest profit store in the Chicago Area, and also one of the most successful stores in Western Region. O'Neal, now the Chicago Division Man ager, who was Johnny's first Credit Man ager. Another is Neal Koshnick, now manager of the Park Forest Branch, and Ron Vonosky, who is now the manager of the Oak lawn Branch. Each of these men feel that Johnny had a part in mak ing their Branch a success by the train ing received while working at the West 79th Street Branch. With the wonderful cooperation of Ruth O'Neal, Jim made plans to gather a group of close friends and associates at the Banana Steak House on Thursday, January 5th to help Johnny celebrate. After a wonderful dinner Jim started the ball rolling, telling tales of the past, followed by presentation of gifts by past employees from the W. 79th Street Branch. Wonderful. 10 0007-SWP-000107543 purchased a new home, arrangements were made to help fix up his recreation room .... a beautiful set of cocktail glasses, an ice bucket, Weber rotisserie, clock radio, charm bracelet for Mrs. Doyle with a charm for their first grand child, card table and chairs. Mr. Drummond presented a most unusual gift, however, with a lot of sentiment behind it. This was a one dollar bill which had been passed on to Johnny in the year 1945 by Mr. Drum mond, (then the Chicago Area Manag er) just before leaving Western Region for Cleveland, as his last salary increase. When Mr. Drummond celebrated his 25th anniversary, Johnny gave the dol lar back to Mr. Drummond as a remind er. For this, Johnny's 25th, Mr. Drum mond had the dollar framed with the inscription reading, J. P. DOYLE--1942 1967, "HERE'S TO YOUR NEVER ! The meet ings were under the leadership of Paul Rush and Del Thompson and we un derstand from those in attendance that they were very challenging. At the beginning of the meeting each man was given a mortarboard cap to wear--a symbol of knowledge. It lvas assumed that, upon completion ol the meeting, each one would have achieved the knowledge sufficient for the wearing of the mortarboard cap. i. e. to make both sales and profit grow. Of course, the regular test of the meeting will be reflected on August 31 ... at that time it will be determined whether they ac tually earned their degree and right to wear the cap. Night meetings were also held with the theme "Profit Will Grow for Those Who Know." Certainly, the men have'been given many good tools with which to work.
