Reason: Provided CBI warning to facility The following information was obtained verbally from Midwest Glass and Oldcastle Building Envelope representatives unless otherwise noted. Company Ownership: Midwest Glass Fabricators Inc ("Midwest Glass" or "the facility") was purchased by Oldcastle Building Envelope ("Oldcastle") about 3 weeks prior to EPA's inspection. The land and shell of the building were not purchased by Oldcastle. Process Description: Midwest Glass purchases glass sheets which are first cut to specification and then processed by any combination of seaming, sanding, tempering, fabricating, laminating, and/or insulating to create a final product. There are four dust collectors for glass seaming and one for wood cutting. Fabrication uses water and glycol for lubrication to cut and polish. Glass is tempered by heating in electric ovens. Laminating is done by melting an interlayer between two sheets of glass in a cold room then running it through a nip oven and autoclave. Glass can also be cut after it is laminated. Insulation is done by sealing two sheets of glass with polyisobutene (PIB) and then urethane or silicone sealant and filling the space with argon. Staff Interview: In January 2019, the facility was expanded to add a glass laminating line and an insulated glass line. Glass coating is not performed at the facility. The facility does not submit annual air emission calculations to the state.
