N1MA The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a test method(s) that could replace the heated tube test required for acceptance of materials for the U. S. Coat: Guard and Maritime Administration. This could possibly lead toward the acceptance of mineral fiber pipe insulation, duct board and duct liner by these agencies. It was agroed that testing of each companies materials lias to be domewith the following criteria: (a) A gross sample representing a composito product has to be used. (b) Outside recognized authority has to be used. (c) Commercially aWailable products have to be tested. (d) Practical tect(s) capable of separating the behavioral characteristics in a fire (i. e. surface berning vs total boat) have to be uoed. *2 It was agreod that each company would collect data on their individual pro ducts with reapect to the following methods: (a) Heated Tube (b) Bomb Calorimeter (c) Tunnel Tests (d) FM Furnace The producto involved would bo the following: 1, Duct (a) Duct Liner - Coated and uncoated (b) Rectangular Duct System Board - Faced (c) Round Duct - Faced (d) Duct Wrap - Flexible L Semi-lligid Board (for uoo on sheet metal FSK jacket) Zm Pipe Insulation - FRJ Jacket Canvas Jacket 3. Basic Board with (a) Stfl canvac plus coatings (b) Glass Cloth plus coatings (Bl7 Coatings 31-26 61-15 31-30) 4. Hullboard - Faced with Glass Cloth This tost data lo be assembled and evaluated prior to Novembor 1, 1966. Since no data is available from the FM Furnace Test (Calorimeter) it was agreed that the following tests would be made at FM. The costs to be chared by the four companies involved. C. E. Ernst is responsible for getting the tests done. One product is to be tested from each company. (a) 3-1/2 pcf Pipe Insulation with standard canvas jacket plus coatings. (b) 3-1/2 pcf Pipe Inoulation with FRJ jacket. (c) 3-1/2 pcf Pipe Insulation with glass cloth jacket pluo coatings. p- 3 (d) Hullboard with glasc cloth facings.
