Bednarik J. Southwick Lustre Modification We will issue new formulas for the Spred Lustre line (Y-4600-W) on March 1. They are being held for the new codes. Changes are higher FVC - VM- 955 - and flat wall resin content. This further insures greater viscosity, flow control and gloss stability under varying production procedures. The latest Lustre line formulas include a basic change: Remove 3.5 gallons V-863-A and 1.0 gallons S-340 Add 4.0 gallons V-895, 1.0# VM-955, and 13.0# W-154 /> This insures better gloss control, flow control and raises the viscosity 3-5 KU. These changes will stabilise product quality for Cowles or pebble mil] production. This also will allow the use of RCR-6240 in place of stan dard V-895. We are also including the addition of 0.5# M-486 to the initial letdown step and 1.0# VM-523 to the final letdown. This is based on the success ful use of this puffing agent in Craftsman 8.G. Y-6650. The M-486 will yield an additional 3-5 KU and accompanying flow controlapplication improvement. J. Bednarik J. Southwick Y-1892 Modification for Improved Dispersibility The Cleveland Plant has reported low viscosities in all but one of their last five productions of Y-I892-G. They also reported difficulty in ob taining the proper dispersion. GLD006814 SI8900019 -59- February, 1967 An evaluation of the grinding difficulties shoved that the leaded zinc oxide, W-U52, is causing the trouble. This pigment will disperse quite readily when it is fresh. Apparently as the pigment ages it becomes more difficult to disperse. Replacing the 12$ leaded zinc oxide W-452 with zinc oxide W-533 will cor rect both of the above problems. The W-533 has an oil demand approximately double that of W-452. This will raise the viscosity by at least 5 KU. Also W-533 is readily dispersible in the Cowles. However, W-533 seems to increase the flow of Y-1892-G and three pounds of Bentone 38 had to be added to correct this problem. A batch of this new formula will be made in the Cleveland plant prior to issuing the formula. W. Green R. Ruzicka J. Southwick
