Morgenthaler is in the course of translating the latest copies cP our rules and regulations, and he has d r a m to my attention an apparent discrepancy between the regulations dated 1st December, 1338 governing drum mixing plants, and those dated 1st April, 1S38 govern ing mixing plants at which bulk storage tanks are filled, from drums. The item referred to is covered in paragraph III.c.4. in the former case, and III.c.3. in the latter. It m i l be noted that in the former case the operators are permitted to remove their masks and to retire whilst the drums are being emptied, but in the latter case it is specif ically mentioned, that they must wear their masks continuously until all the barrels have been emptied. Kr. Morgenthaler points out, from the point of view of the workmen it would be preferable if the gas masks could be removed whilst the barrels are actually being emptied. I have suggested to him that he might adopt this course in the translation, in'.which case he should include regula tion III.c.TO of the drum mixing regulations to the effect that if, for any reason, vapours of Ethyl Fluid are detected, then the gas masks must be worn. If you disapprove of this suggestion of. mine, will you advise-me as early as possible, as I am sure we will be able to hold up the matter from going to the printers. He wishes, however, to have all the regulations correctly translated, since there is a decided possibility that bulk sieving will be adopted so.-ie time in the future by a few of the synthetic gasoline plants which will have a very high production.
