Dr. Mehlman contacted Scott Tucker by phone and requested to meet with a representative from Monsanto at the New York ACS meeting. I, subsequently, met with Dr. Mehlman and the following is a summary of our discussion. Dr. Mehlman indicated he would like to carry out a collaborative toxicity study with Monsanto. His inquiries were directed toward our tissue analysis capabilities. He would carry out the exposure and toxicity portions and we would carry out the tissue residue analysis. Experimental design is incomplete at this time, nevertheless he anticipates the study would involve a single high level exposure of rats to Aroclor 1254 and the subsequent moni toring of the tissues to determine the rate of recovery. He would like to obtain five or six points over a period of six to eight months. Approximately 140 tissues requiring residue analysis are involved. I suggested he should consider using Aroclor 1016 in the proposed study since this constitutes the bulk of our sales today. In addition, I promised a copy of our analytical methods. Attached is a request from Dr. Mehlman for the analysis of 12 tissue samples sometime during September. Dr. Mehlman would like to visit St. Louis sometime in October for further discussions. Perhaps we could work out a study which would be an adequate substitute for the study to differentiate between Aroclor 1016 and Aroclor 1242 proposed in our memo of 9-22-72 to W. B. Papageorge.
