Consider obtaining lab spill clean-up kits for the plant lab. The cause of a recent fire in the Chlorine Plant lab has been attributed to the use of an incompatible absorbent (paper towels) to clean up spilled nitric acid. 2. The Poly C chemical compatibility chart needs to be finalized. The testing has been completed and all that remains is to make the final decisions regarding compatibility and to build the CHEMPAT chart. 3. Concerning the flare header: A written procedure is needed that specifies the appropriate action to be taken to avoid a flammability concern when the high oxygen concentration alarm is activated. Oxygen concentration as low as 4% will be a problem when a significant amount of hydrogen is present. 4. Concerning D-508: Since the temperature of the Paratherm in this vessel is above the flash point, there is concern that a flammable mixture will result from loss of the nitrogen pad pressure. Review this concern and make sure appropriate safeguards exist to avoid a flammability hazard. DO A 018025 CONFTDFNTTAL 2- 5. Concerning the dumping procedures for spent Molecular Sieve: Add a section describing the flammability hazards that exist. There have been many fires within Dow with discarded sieve that have been attributed to the oxidation of organics that were not removed by regeneration. Please respond in writing to the committee chairman within one month as to action taken or planned in regard to these concerns.
