Dear Mayor:
It is with regret that I report to you the retirement on October 16 of Mrs.-. Anita K Henson, Supervisor of Public Health Nursing in the Druid Health District, Mrs. Henson, a native Baltimorean, has been a staff member of the City Health Department since July 20, 19i0 and, a Supervisor of Public Health Nursing since May 3, I9I9,
Highly dedicated to.her profession and to community service, Mrs. Henson's first assignment was in the Eastern Health District where she worked in Health Department clinics, served as a school nurse and made home visits for a variety of health services.
In 19^2 after a year's leave of absence to attend New York University for
courses in nursing education, she wa3 assigned to the Druid Health District and for
almost 30 years devoted herself to.health services in that district. Among her many
accomplishments Mrs, Henson helped organize needed child health clinics deciding on
their locations and selecting and supervising their staffs. She has played an active
part in the District's elementary school health program, the polio, measles, and
German measles, vaccination drives, the tuberculosis and VD control work and neighborhood
health fairs. Always responsive to the needs of the Department and the community she
has served on departmental nursing manual committees, organized and participated in

in-service education of new staff and in the teaching of student nurses in programs
affiliated with Provident,Hospital and the University of Maryland and Union Memorial
hospitals,

A graduate of Frederick Douglass High School and the Provident Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs, Henson worked as a staff member in the Department of Hospitals in New York City, a post she held for nine years before returning to Baltimore, In pursuing her educational goals firs. Henson attended Morgan State College, the University of Maryland, Rutgers University, Columbia University and the Catholic University of America where she was awarded her B,S, in Nursing Education,
Mrs. Henson is an active member of many local and national health and social service groups including the American Nurses' Association, the Supervisory Chapter of the Maryland Nurses Association, the Board of Directors of the Instructive Visiting Nurse Association, the Board of Directors of the Community Chest, the NAACP, the Congress of Racial Equality, the Baltimore Urban League, and is a Chapter Member of Chi Eta Phi, a nurses sorority. Her husband Roland Henson, an employee of the C & P Telephone Company is one of the founders of Bridge House, a facility for recovering alcoholics at 1516 Madison Avenue, a board member of the Baltimore Area Council on Alcoholism and has worked closely with the City Health Department's alcoholism program.
A testimonial banquet honoring Mrs. Henson's many years of service to the Baltimore community will be held November 21 at Martin's West.
