Evaluation of Potential Exposure to AsbestoB from Oil Clutch Plates As requested, the Industrial Hygiene Services Section subjectively evaluated potential asbestos exposure from the handling of pre-oiled clutch plates. As indicated to R. D. Byrom, based on similar operations at the Livonia Trans mission Plant, employe exposures would be expected to be below the OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 2 fibers per cubic centimeter of air (f/cc). OSHA Program Directive #300-16, however, requires medical examinations for employes exposed to 0.1 f/cc. Employes at certain Livonia operations have, on occasion, been exposed to more than 0.1 f/cc. To ensure that the employe health is not compromised at Batavia, the operation in question should be quantitatively evaluated to determine the need for compliance with this directive.
