INTER OFFICE MEMO TENNECO CHEMICALS, INC. to John Jacob AT Fords date October 23, 1975 From J, W. Poarch subject CARBON ADSORPTION SYSTEM AT Burlington Copy to E. Hourihan W. Miringoff F. D. Richardson P. Scheiner E. Sehenke E, Schwartz J* Thompson During the Pasadena start-up the packaged carbon adsorption unit was one of the projects Lew Medeiros and I worked with. In general the unit is well designed, but there were two main deficiencies which we found and had to correct. They are as follows: 1, All condensate traps on the regeneration system were totally inadequate. Condensate receivers and level controls were recommended to replace the traps; however, these were not installed before we left Pasadena. 2, The nitrogen heater was an electrical calrod type and sur face temperatures would reach approximately 1,000F. I believe a steam heated exchanger would do the same job at Flemington and would offer a safer and more easily controlled operation. There were other smaller problems such as an inadequate nitrogen supply regu lator and inadequately sized steam supply traps. An orifice plate meter on the regeneration steam would also be desirable.
