Subject: Senate energy committee approves FERC, DOE and DOI nominees

A slate of President Donald Trump's nominees for FERC and the departments of Energy and Interior sailed through the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee this morning.
FERC chairman nominee Kevin McIntyre, Democratic FERC commissioner pick Rich Glick, Interior Department solicitor-to-be Ryan Nelson and assistant DOI secretary for Land and Minerals Management nominee Joseph Balash were all approved on a voice vote.
Democratic Sen. Al Franken asked to be recorded as voting against Balash.
Sen. Maria Cantwell, the top Democrat on the energy committee, said she was "favorably impressed" by McIntyre who, when confirmed by the full Senate with Glick, will bring FERC's leadership board back to full strength for the first time since 2015.
But Cantwell requested a roll call vote on DOE general counsel nominee David Jonas, who faced pointed questions from lawmakers about his past opposition to women and gay people serving in the military. He was approved today on a 14-9 vote. Sens. Joe Manchin and Angus King voted alongside every Republican on the committee in Jonas' support.
WHAT'S NEXT: The nominees now await confirmation by the full Senate. The timing of those votes has not yet been announced.
