July 13, 1990 SECOND NOTICE TO: VI Health, Safety and Environment Committee/Legal Committee RE: MSDS and Label Review Meeting - July 31. 1990 A special joint meeting of the Health, Safety and Environment Committee and the Legal Committee has been set for Tuesday, July 31, 1990 at 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Atlanta Airport Marriott to conduct a workshop on MSDS's and labels for PVC resins and compounds. An initial notice went out on June 8, 1990 (attached). Since this topic has far-reaching consequences for the vinyl industry, a copy is being sent to all Executive Board and Affiliate members. Mr. Donald Goodman (technical), Robert Luss (legal), Ms. Tova Reinhorn (MSDS specialist), and Dr. Ladd W. Smith (toxicology) of Occidental Chemical will lead the discussion of critical elements in the preparation and logic of MSDS's and labels for PVC products. Industry members and affiliates are invited to review and comment on Occidental's approaches and conclusions to communicate ap propriate warnings for all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Examples of Occidental's MSDS's and labels will be presented as the basis of an informal workshop discussion. Don Goodman has previously reviewed these topics for th joint committees, but the specialists addressing MSDS's and labels were not present to critically receive the information and comment on it. It is hoped that each member company will send its hazard communications specialist to this meeting to participate in the workshop. June 8, 1990 TO: VI Health, Safety & Environment Committee/Legal Committee RE: MSDS and Label Review As discussed at the May 10th joint committee meeting, a joint meeting of the VI Health, Safety and Environment Committee and the VI Legal Committee has been scheduled for: Tuesday, July 31, 1990, 10:00 a.m. to Atlanta Airport Marriott 4711 Best Road College Park, Georgia 30337 (404)-766-7900 3:00 p.m. The purpose of this joint meeting is to review in detail one company's MSDS's and labels prepared under the OSHA communications standard. Therefore, it is important that the right people from each company be present. Besides the members of the two commit tees, each company should have present those individuals who make the key decisions regarding the language contained in the MSDS's and labels. Because this is a special meeting, there will be a $25.00 per person charge to offset the cost,of lunch and breaks. Checks made payable to The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. should be returned with your meeting response form by July 10th. A block of rooms has been reserved for the night of July 30th. When making your reservation, refer to the Vinyl Institute meeting. This block will be held only until July 13th, at which time they will be released.
