Dear Dr. Edgar: I regret that my reply to your letter of May 6th has been delayed due to my having been out of the city. I have discussed the matter of Xaotomatie pumps with one or two of those interested who are connected with this office. The first inquiry was as to why the manufacturers of the pumps, who apparently expect to dispose of them to oil companies# did not take into consideration the fact that the labeling of pumps dispensing leaded gasoline is a usual practice and has been for a period of years# and make provision for this in their design. All with whom I discussed the matter thought it was not good policy to place the lable on the side of the pusp rather than on the front. It was also the con sensus of opinion that 15 inches from the ground to the top of the sign was somewhat low. The place for the label indicated on Pump 3# at 40 inches frcm the groundg seems to be reasonable to all* This is just opinion# and has# of course# no official significance.
