Analytical Project No: A01524 Date: 24-Sep-01
Subiect:
TEM ASBESTOS ANALYSIS OF WEST WINDSOR FLOAT ' FEED CONCENTRATE
Request:
A sample of the March Float Feed Concentrate from West Windsor was submitted for asbestos analysis by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Bain Environmental, Inc. Initially analyzed this sample and reported finding a trace amount of chrysotile.
Results:
The following results were obtained using the ASTM D 5756-95 procedure for the detection of asbestos by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). No chrysotile was detected. However, a large talc ribbon (~30 x 0.3 pm) was observed that could have been misidentified as a chrysotile fiber. Analysis of this "ribbon" by selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed that it was talc.
