Fahy of our chemical laboratory staff have written a paper with the title "Evaluati on of Urinary Lead Determinations in the Control of Industrial Exposures." In submitting this paper to me, the authors make the following comments: "It is based on a broad study of the urinary lead determinations that have been made in the last three years, and on a detailed' study of several series of determinations. ' "The main conclusion to which this study led is that a more accurate evaluation of the exposure is obtained if the results of urinalysis are adjusted to mean specific gravity of urine, an adjustment which is equivalent to calculating the lead content on the tesis of total urinary solids. "Fundamentally, the finding is quite simple, and therefore it is surprising to us that the `old hands' at lead studies had not suggested it in the past." I wonder if you would be willing to read this paper and give us your frank comments on it* Both the authors and I would particularly value your opinion.
