The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced that hearings on its proposed lead standard have been scheduled to begin on March 15, 1977, at the Departmental Auditorium, Constitution Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets, N.W., in Washington, D.C. Enclosed is a copy of the announce ment which appeared on Tuesday, January 4, 1977, in the Federal Register.
Please note that any person who wishes to appear at the public hearing must submit a pre-hearing statement to that effect on or before February 11, 1977. The statement should be sent to

and must contain the following information: (1) the name, address, and phone number of each witness to be called by the person or company requesting to appear, (2) the estimated time needed for the presentation of their testimony, (3) a detailed statement of the position to be taken on each issue to be addressed, and (4) a statement of the documentary evidence to be produced in support of that position. The required statement is in addition to any requests which may have been previously submitted by the party who wishes to appear.

2In addition to submitting appropriate and timely notices of intention to appear, those persons intending to submit a prepared written statement or docu ments for the record at the hearing must submit such documents in quadruplicate by March 11, 1977. These documents must be received by Clarence Page in the OSHA Committee Management Office, by the close of business March 11, 1977. L1A will prepare and circulate to all of its members as soon as possible the pre-hearing statement (in draft form) which it expects to submit. In order to facilitate our own preparation and to enable us to assist in coordi nating the submission of statements by. those of LIA*s members who intend to appear at the hearings, we strongly urge that you advise us (by telephoning Lillian Piantanida, 212-532-2373) as soon as possible if you do expect to request to appear. Also, I would recommend that copies of all draft and final pre-hearing statements be sent to Ms. Piantanida in advance of filing. We shall continue to keep.you informed and welcome any specific inquiries you might have.
