Its light plant began operations in 1900, generating its power entirely with gas engines using natural gas as fuel, since Ford Citv was located in a natural gas field. The first diesel generators appeared when the gas supply began to dwindle, and at first they were required to operate in parallel with gas-engine-driven generators. At present, four diesel engine generating units are in service, being installed in 1936, 1941, 1948, and the newest one just last year. Pictures on these pages show the units now in service.
