STANDARDS SECTION - SAFETY & FIRE PROTECTION SUBCOMMITTEE
The following new standard is forwarded for its second review. Please return your comments or approval on the attached form by October lb, 1972.
S4T - ASBESTOS DUST EXPOSURE, MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL
The above standard was submitted initially November 3, 1971, and a number of comments were received. It was followed closely by the issue of an emergencytemporary Standard for Exposure to Asbestos Dust under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) on December 7, 1971. The permanent regulation was issued on June 7, 1972. In view of the comments, the new regulations, and the subsequent discussions concerning the proposed revised standard, it is being resubmitted for further approval or comments.
The standard has been reorganised to include the essential requirements of the OSHA regulations ana facilitate compliance. The Employee Relations Department currently is reviewing two items for possible addition to the standard:
a. A statement that OSHA regulations also cover medical examinations and records. The latter previously were considered outside the scope of such a standard.
b. In-Company filter counting capability. This subject is being investigated currently.
