To monitor individual operating personnel vinyl chloride exposure. 2. To monitor, according to job classification, vinyl chloride exposure to employees. j t * 3. To monitor, according to work area, vinyl chloride exposure to employees. 4. To determine, according to work area and job classification, total vinyl chloride exposure to employees per day. Program Description * 1. Personnel Involved a. All personnel in vinyl area operations^ will be required to participate in the program. \ * b. Personnel data will be taken as to include name, position, and area worked in. c. Three employees per day will be required to wear the dosimeters for a seven hour period. During this period the employees should keep the dosimeter on at all times. Each employee will wear the dosimeter at least twice during the program. 2. Scheduling a. The Engineering Department* will be in charge of scheduling employees who are to wear the dosimeters each day. b. Copies of this schedule will be sent to the Safety Department, Lab, and Operations Superintendent and foremen. \ c. Any contradictions to the schedule should be reported to the Engineering Department. 3. Distribution and Return of the Dosimeter a. The Safety Department will be in charge of distributing the dosimeters each morning at 8:00 a.m. to the scheduled employees. 1The program will be expanded later to invlove other plant employees. 2Scheduling and Data Tabulation will eventually be turned over to the Safety Department. VAB.0001042957 b. The scheduled employees will be required to return the dosimeters to the Safety Department at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. h 4. Equipment Use and Care * a. Three model C-115 Bendix Personnel Air Samplers and model 530 M battery chargers will be used in the program. b. Dosimeters will be collected by the Safety Department each morning from the lab and returned each afternoon to the lab. The lab will be responsible for charging the batteries*in the machines and other work involved in care for the machines including analyzing results. * t * c. Dosimeters will be worn by employees with the sampler tube attached near the face on the employees clothing. The Safety Department will be responsible for explaining to employees how to wear apd take care of the dosimeter. d. Operations will be in charge of seeing that dosimeters are returned to the Safety Department and that employees are taking part in the program. Data Tabulation 1. The Engineering Department will be responsible for gathering 'all data. 2. Data Will Include: a. Employees Name i b. Job Classification | I . I i i c. Work Area d. Total Vinyl Chloride Exposure Per Day 3. Tabulated Data Will Be Arranged In 3 Catagories a. Individual Exposure b. Exposure By Job Classification c. Exposure By Work Area 4. Accidental or uncommon exposure to heavy concentrations of vinyl chloride by employees wearing dosimeters should be reported to the Safety Department. Also any discrepancies to the program such as employees having to remove the dosimeters or turning the machines off should be reported. The Safety Department should report all information to the Engineering Department. p * 5.
