24 when you became the chairman of PSAC -- can you give
25 me your best recollection as to when you heard of

A. I can only give you an answer that says I would
suppose.

A. Approximately 1964 through 966 , let's say.

you hear it in conjunction with something else?
A. Whenever 1 first heard it, it was as an
impurity in 2,4,5-T.
Q . When you learned of that information,

that 2,4,5-T was a component of a substance known as
Agent Orange?
A Yes. Q.
After you heard of the term dioxin in
association with 2,4,5 -T , did the military continue
to. use Agent Orange in Viet Nam?
A. Yes.
Q. Did they continue to use it for several
years thereafter?
A. Yes. q . Did you, sir, when you learned of the
fact that dioxin was an impurity in 2,4,5-T ever rela^
that information on to anybody in the Department of
Defense?

that fact have to you?

might be and what the magnitude of the exposures

Q. Was It your understanding when you
learned of the presence of dioxin in 2,4,5-T that
the dioxin presented a potential health hazard to
human beings?
A . Yes.
Q . Do you recall who told you that dioxin

A. No.

you were performing your duties as either chairman
