' In the interest of futher protecting the asbestos worker from the potential health hazards of asbestos, we have, revised the label which appears on our asbestos bag by expanding the health warnings with which every asbestos worker should be familiar and by including specific instructions for safely handling asbestos fibre. The information contained in our expanded label will, we feel, play an important role in achieving the goal of eliminating asbestos-related disease from the workplace. Starting on or about June 1, 1977 our asbestos bags will carry the following health warning which will be printed on the bottom and front of the bag: DANGER 'CONTAINS ASBESTOS FIBRES AVOID CREATING DOST ASBESTOSIS, LUNG CANCER AND ' OTHER FATAL DISEASES MAY BE CAUSED BY INHALATION OF ASBESTOS SMOKING GREATLY INCREASES LUNG CANCER RISK . In addition, the sides of the bag will carry the following in structions for the handling of asbestos: DO NOT SMOKE. ALWAYS OPERATE AND MAINTAIN VENTILATION AND OTHER EQUIPMENT. WEAR APPROVED RESPIRATORS AS INSTRUCTED. VACUUM LOOSE FIBRE OR WET BEFORE CLEAN UP. DISCARD WASTE FIBRE IN SEALED BAGS. USE VACUUM EQUIPMENT TO REMOVE DUST FROM CLOTHES. REPAIR DAMAGED BAGS IMMEDIATELY. We urge you to take the necessary steps to assure that your employees (and especially those of your employees who may not come into contact with the new asbestos bags) are made aware of the re vised health warnings and handling instructions.
