Brake shoe linings, purchased aa part of complete brake assemblies, are the only components at the Van Dyke and Sterling Plants containing asbestos. The vendor estimates that each lining is approximately 60% asbestos.
It is unknown to the Brake Engineering Deportment as te whether handling of or exposure to the parts 'n the finished state is currently or will be
harmful to Plant personnel.

Division Safety Engineers' recent check of "the Van Dyke Blent showed the breathing area to be innoetioua. A cheek of Starling Plant will be performed ia the near future.
Currently, there is no nse of asbestos introduction parts at the -Indianapolis, Canton A Puerto Rico plants.
Non-component parts of concern to the Safety Department are steam pipe wrapping with asbestos insulation, asbestos roping on furnace doors, nnd gaskets far certain piping applications. The Plant's have been informed of these possible hazards.
