For Lower Olefins I have participated in the CEFIC Lower Olefins (LO) Toxicology group and the IISRP Toxicology group for the past several years. The LO group meets between 4-6 times per year usually in Brussels and, for this group's activities, I have also attended the ACC annual research meeting in the USA. This profile is unlikely to change in 2004. For IISRP I only participate in teleconferences. The share of the CEFIC tox budget is not entirely clear to me but current expectation is that it will increase by 10% in 2004 due to study cost phasing but then decrease in 2005 by up to 20%. Are you mainly interested in 2004 ? My anticipated involvement in industry projects I have been working will continue at about the rate expected at the beginning of the year, with the exception of ACC generic teams (LRI and Science Policy) that might be impacted by expected changes in ACC as a result of ACC budget cuts. However, for 2004, I have recently reported to the folks at Westhollow some revised R&D figures for 2004 for Aromatics, HODER and LO PBUs. The HODER value for 2004 will now be $ 85,000 USD (previously $ 265,00 USD), the LO value will be reduced by $ 23,000 (Total was $ 314,000 and is now $ 291 ,000 USD). The Aromatics number is still uncertain, with two main components: a to be determined change in the payment schedule for the Shanghai Health Study and an increase of about $ 1.1 million USD for the Shanghai Health Study, to be spread over - 3 years. Finally, on behalf of all of the PBUs I have been watching the EPA Endocrine Disruptor Screening and Testing program in anticipation of the beginning of the implementation of this program in 2004, or, more likely, 2005. This is expected to eventually impact all of the PBUs but not for a year or so. Regarding the LO extramural program in the EU, I will let Bob explain anticipated funding trends 2003-2005 (?) for industry work via CEFIC and the share that Shell pays. I hope this helps.
