Gaffey 2- - August 16, 1982 The point of this letter is to ask whether you could make inquiry for us to Dr. Marsh at the University of Pittsburgh to see whether or not he has more detailed data from the mortality study he submitted on December 21, 1979, concerning cancer of the respiratory system. On Page 12 of his report, which I enclose, he comnents that there are no important excesses or trends in any of the cohort subgroups examined. I wonder, however, if he has details on the specific types of cancer we believe to be involved in these two cases. Obviously, I am particularly concerned about the case involving adeno carcinoma. Because of its relative rarity, there may be no statistically significant figures. Nevertheless, if his statistics do identify this particular variety of lung cancer, the lack of any increased findings at the Springfield plant could have some probative value before our Industrial Accident Board.
