Gentlemen!
Cn February 13, the writer visited the Chevrolet plant on Brookpark Rd. in Cxevelend. the purpose of the visit wee to obtain infomatlon regarding the claimant's working environment et Chevrolet-Clevelaad.
She Chevrcdet-Cleveland operation which wee eetabllshed 25 yeors ago h.u grown to becose one of the largest industrial employers in Cityr-hoge County* with over 0000 people* In the nein building* Chevrolet trananiselons ere manufactured. this building also contains n substantial heavy press department which turns out internal body sheet metal. Also toward Snow Asad a new building has been completed where propeller shafts ere aads.
Provic s to Chevrolet* the claimant had worked at tho now defunct John T^rsch foundry on Berea Road and the oore recently closed Alcoc- Sand Foundry cn Harvard Ave.
The clclnant's basic work history at Cleveland over 40 years 5 c tabulated belowt

The claimnt was hired at the Alcoa Send Foundry in 1*29 ..rwl ne i..i there until he quit on 3-12-37. During this w!a>1c period he worked either as an apprentice bench ::x>idor or as an apprentice floor molder.

Chevrolet maintain* a die repair operation In the Cleveland plant to eorvice the dies need for stamping body parts. It was in this operation, working as a die repairman, that the claimant waj
employed from 1951 until 1970 at the Brookperk plant. This work involves a considerable amount of grinding with rether email air driven grinding wheels. The writer eede a duet count in the breathing sons o.f a workman performing a die grinding operation during hio reoent visit to the Chevrolet plant. This eount showed less than one million particles per oubic foot of air which is quite low. It should also be remembered that wheels employed in this work do not contain silica.
Little Is known, about the long defunct John Harsch foundry. It
apparently was t notv-ferrous sand operation with a hundred or
more employees. Cotuts node here on the foundry floor in 1942 and
1944 showed respectively 1.9 and 6*0 million particles per cubic
foot cf air.
1
We here no dust counts from ths Alcoa Sand foundry during the
claimant's employment there (1929*1937) battues this period predated the time when dust counts ware initiated by the division. However,
there are some 1940 and 1941 counts recorded at the Alcoa foundry that are probably typical of ths claimant's 1929-1937 employment at this foundry. These counts from the Harvard Avw. foundry are tabulated bolowt

The Aicou foundry which bee now been closed for a few years had * vjry good record and wee certainly above average in dust control re; rtiro?. Tt Is ssunvod that the Hersch foundry was average as

It can be 3t&tedu.th little or no equivocation that if this claimant h::s silicosis, <t suet be e result of teLs employment et the two
